Journalists to gather at Maya Villa Hotel for capacity building workshop

On Thursday, June 11, journalists from different media houses will gather at the Maya Villa Hotel at Oyibi in the Greater Accra Region for the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) Media Capacity Building Workshop.
The event is titled “Covering Ghana’s Alumina Refining Ambitions: Evidence, Tradeoffs, and Accountability.”
The workshop will bring together selected journalists, editors, and media commentators with an interest in energy, mining, business, and public policy.
For decades, Ghana has pursued the ambition of developing an integrated aluminium industry, spanning bauxite mining, alumina refining, and aluminium smelting.
While bauxite mining and aluminium smelting exist, the “missing middle” alumina refining – has remained elusive. Recent government announcements, renewed investor interest, and revisions to the Integrated Aluminium Industry (IAI) Master Plan have once again placed alumina refining at the center of public debate.
