The Election Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it will sanction flagbearer aspirants who issued public attacks on other presidential candidate hopefuls.
This follows a viral video of NPP flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong threatening to give the president and his vice a showdown during the super delegates conference held on Saturday, August 26.
Addressing a press conference in Accra on Monday, August 28, a member of the Committee, Alexander Afenyo-Markin said relative to this that “we are inviting certain personalities to appear before us.”
“All such individuals are to appear before us,” he stressed.
During the super delegates conference, Mr Kennedy Agyapong who is also Member of Parliament for Assin Central stormed out of the voting center in the Central Region after he was said to have received reports that his agent in the Upper West Region had been allegedly chased out.
“I swear God, I will challenge President Akufo-Addo anytime, you will all hear what will happen,” the Assin Central Member of Parliament is heard uttering on phone.
It is unclear what had provoked him but he accused the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also one of the aspirants, as complicit.
“I swear God, President Akufo-Addo, I will give you showdown,” he said in local language Twi.
“Vice President, I will give you showdown because you have chased my agent out into a room.”
Vice President Dr Bawumia swept 629 of the votes (68.15%) followed by Kennedy Agyapong and Alan Kyerematen with 132 votes (14.3%) and 95 votes (10.29%) respectively.
Addai-Nimoh and Mr Boakye Agyarko polled 9 votes each after the Saturday, August 26 super delegates conference of the NPP, resulting in a run-off between the two of them to determine who places 5th.
