The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has issued a directive to all public sector workers, warning that employees who fail to verify their Ghana Card details on the government payroll will have their salaries suspended starting March 15, 2026.
In a letter dated February 11, 2026, the Department noted that the recent rollout of an upgraded e-Payslip platform has exposed critical data discrepancies.
These errors typically involve National Identification Authority (NIA) numbers captured on the payroll system that do not match the official records held by the NIA.
To address these discrepancies, the CAGD has requested the Human Resource Departments of all affected “Covered Entities” to take immediate corrective action. This includes reconciling mismatched data to ensure that every employee on the mechanized payroll is properly linked to their verified biometric identity.
The affected institutions include major state bodies such as:
- The Ghana Education Service (GES) and Ghana Health Service (GHS)
- The Judicial Service of Ghana
- Security services, including the Ghana Prisons Service, Immigration Service, and National Fire Service
- The Electoral Commission and the Ghana Audit Service
