Ablakwa: Technical experts from China to arrive in Ghana for Damongo University of Science and Engineering, Aflao Modern Market Complex and refurbishment of National Theatre projects

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has held a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Cong Song, earlier on Thursday, October 8.

The meeting focused on reviewing progress on the priority projects, including the Damongo University of Science and Engineering, Aflao Modern Market Complex and the Refurbishment of the National Theatre.

Mr Ablakwa confirmed that “funding remains secured and intact for these important projects.”

He further indicated that all feasibility reports have been completed.

“Ghana looks forward to receiving a team of technical experts from China in the next few weeks for the three key projects to commence,” he wrote on X after the meeting.

He added “We shall continue to pursue impactful diplomacy with our international partners from all continents as we face forward for development and transformation.”

In another development, Mr Ablakwa announced that Ghana has formally joined the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA).

“It was with great pleasure that I presented the signed agreement and instrument of acceptance to the distinguished External Affairs Minister of India, His Excellency Dr. S. Jaishankar during his visit to Ghana,” he wrote.

The IBCA initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other international partners in 2023 seeks to protect and conserve big cat species including lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, pumas and cheetahs.

Mr Ablakwa said President John Mahama is keen to expand Ghana’s wildlife reserves, prevent the extinction of big cats, combat poaching, revive the zoos and make Ghana a premium conservation destination.
