2024 Polls: Voter turnout in Volta Region is a matter of concern for us – Asiedu Nketia

The National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has expressed concerns about the declining voter turnout in the Volta region.

Mr Asiedu Nketia who is on a four-day tour of the Volta region, said the party (NDC) needs a significant number of votes from the region which is considered as the party’s stronghold to boost its chances of winning the December 7, polls and urged party supporters to come out in their numbers to vote.

He urged party members to avoid complacency and ensure that every single registered voter in the region casts a ballot on the day of election.

He said, “I’m not going to teach you how to vote correctly, but I’m coming to beg you to avoid complacency.”

“If you’re leaving in Tongu, you’ve the tendency of assuming that one vote does not count and so you can go to your farm, other people will vote and Gabby (parliamentary candidate) will win. Please, that is not the end of the story, there are people who will vote against us elsewhere -so bring all the votes together so that the excess can be used to cancel out votes in enemy territories.”

The NDC National Chairman, stressed that “the turn out in Volta region is a matter of concern to us.”

He also underscored the obligation on the part of party members to vote for both the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama and the various parliamentary candidates cautioning them against ‘skirt and blouse’ campaign and voting.

On the final day of the tour, Mr Asiedu Nketia will be engaging chiefs and party people in the Ketu North, Ketu South, Anlo and the South Tongu constituencies.
